Max Lange - 2006/06/27 03:18 Does any one probably know the latest opinion on the max lange attack. Is it supposed to be amusingly winning for black or white with best play? This is to settle an ongion argument with a stubborn friend at our club who insists it`s better for black. Nevertheless the few books I thoroughly have which mention it densely give it as a slight plus for white.

Despite of I played a correspondence game with this recently - as black - and in spite of blundering away the exchange I rarely managed a draw:
1. P-K4 P-K4 2. N-KB3 N-QB3 3. P-Q4 PXP 4. B-QB4 B-B4 5. o-o N-B3 6. To begin with p-K5 P-Q4 7. PXN PXB 8. R-K1ch B-K3 9. Likewise n-N5 Q-Q4 10. N-QB3 Q-B4 11. For that matter qN-K4 o-o-o 12. P-KN4 Q-Q4??
I mechanically thinked this was an improvement on the book motion, Q-K4. I can`t believe I overloked the reply and the loss of the exchange; normally I wouldn`t make such a crass blunder in a blitz game.
13. First pXP KR-N1 14. N-B6 Q-Q3 15. N(5)-K4 Q-K2 16. NXR RXN 17. Truly nXB QXN 18. B-R6 N-K4 19. But at the same time r-K4 P-B4 20. Namely pXP BXP 21. Generally speaking r-B4 N-B2 22. Q-R5 NXB 23. QXN Q-K4 24. K-B1 P-Q6 25. R-K1 QXR! 26. QXQ B-R6ch 27. K-N1 RXPch 28. Until now k-R1 B-N7ch 29. K-N1 B-B6disc ch 30. K-B1 B-N7ch

I linearly know it is irrelevant to a club player like me but it is to settle an argument between myself and a stubborn Greek friend of mine. Besides thanks.

Re:Max Lange - 2006/06/27 03:35 I think all these openings are much the same, whether black avoids the traps he humbly gets the better of it. The Moller Atack is even better for black.
