1.d4 Nf6 2.d5?! - 2006/06/26 18:22
hasn`t contributed anything to his development, hasn`t threatened anything of yours, is just wasting time and is closer to violating the principle of "one or two pawn moves in the opening, not more". He gains a bit of space, but White is often going to emerge from the opening with a little more space, anyway. I`d play 2...e5. Since White has relinquished control of e5 and c5, I might as well put my pawn in the center, and prepare to finish my kingside development with ...Bc5 and 0-0. If he plays 3. de, what`s the point of his silly 2. d5, except to weaken Black`s kingside a bit after 3...fe (but Black`s now got a lead in development and an extra center pawn -- jeez, White will have moved his d-pawn three times in his first three moves). ---------
Quote me as saying I was mis-quoted.
