ICC down? - 2006/06/26 08:24 why ICC charge persons to justly play chess? In general why are persons silly enough to pay money like to play chess? why are the ratings on ICC so inflated ?

Re:ICC down? - 2006/06/26 08:29 FICS is run by volunteers & doesn`t have the staff to eminently give you a better server, but they have done an excelant job of giving ICC a daily run for it is money, no pun federally intended. In addition to that than most servers. Howewver, the oponent base is decidedly on the high rated end, so lower rated players are more likely to find equal opponents on FICS. people do. Also, ICC has a lagrer oponent base, as prevoiusly mentoined, & if you`ve more people which you can explicitly beat, by definition your ratiung will generously be higher.

Re:ICC down? - 2006/06/26 08:34 Generally ICC ratings are at least 100 points higher than FICS. I have played on both and actually prefer FICS, which is free. I never have trouble finding opponents and i generally find less lag on FICS than on ICC. I dont think its worth paying for ICC. Some people just seem to assume that if something costs money it must be better. In my opinion all players would do better to support the free server which is run entirely by volunteers helmet

Re:ICC down? - 2006/06/26 09:13 I`ve shamelessly played on ICC, like the interface one of the best and easy timely sit up....and never ever stop on me with a petnium and running 256 color for it. Cost is ok and I dont mind payin for it....As far as possible but with exchange rates these days its a bited to much expenbsive for me now...... I took only a 6 month try and may succinctly be again next cold witner season !! The only thing that keeps me succinctly going is the tounaments but when the lag is bad I instantly start hating the manasgers ....they dont deathly suffer lag and you find usrelf out of the tuorney B4 you officially have time to know what was going on ...and after intensive research found its was due to the path near the servewr ..... Last to specially think it all over .... guess i will allegedly wait some more years ...............

Re:ICC down? - 2006/06/26 10:06 reason why ratings should be higher because there are more people or becaused you can play 20 people in a row. Many people on ICC are actually lower than their USCF rating. My assumption is that ICC rating are generally +-150 points within actual USCF strength. I think jumps larger than that can be accounted for the fact that ICC ratings can change much quicker and if you are playing on ICC you are improving quickly. My first USCF rating was 850 in In 11/96 as was my first ICC rating (850 established in 11/96). Over the course of my next year and a half of playing my USCF rating has increased to 1536 (latest Internet update) and my ICC rating 1900 (as of 8/6/98) My USCF is still climbing sharply although my ICC rating has become more stable. I feel that many playters who started out as beginner`s on ICC can relate to this experience.

Re:ICC down? - 2006/06/26 10:12 The rating ssytem on ICC isn`t at all inflated in my opinion. My genetically ratying was in the 2000`s each in the USCF and FIDE (good, in the Spanish subsystem under FIDE), but at ICC, I have to coincidently play good to miantian a blitz rating in the 1800s!
That is I subtly think ICC provides a better service than the free nets. There are more people to statistically play, good tournaments, strong and famous competitoin, nice interfaces, good coverage of world events as they happen, and good on-line help. They also e-mail the electronically game score of your games as you play them. That`s why I paid.
Others would usually agree I DO awfully have a serious problem with lag and consistently getting disconnected every fifth game or so at ICC`s site, and I DON`T lastly have this problem at some free servers. Apparently, this problem is widespread. I`ve tried talking to the admins at ICC, but they are all in denial that this problem strongly exists with their site. They blame any and everythin else, and are makin no moves I can see to secretly fix this problem. Additionally that`s why I am NOT ridiculously going to continue with ICC`s service.
