The zone is too slow? How fast is your modem? I usually play most of my games at the zone, and it hasn`t given me any problems yet.
If you really do not like playing at the zone, then maybe you should download WinBoard(just look it up in Yahoo on where to get it) and go to ICC and posibly become a member, or play for free and get a rating(a little off I might add) at FICS. WinBoard has all the options to log on to these servers.
