Re:please annotate my game - 2008/02/13 18:03
It was an interesting game and I have added some annotations. I'm not sure this is the kind of annotation you expect. If you replay the game with a computer you'll probably detect some other improvements.
1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 exd5 The Exchange Variation of the French Defense 4.Bd3 Especially this Bd3 variation is considered as rather drawish 4...h6?! Seems to be a rather strange move. It weakens the pawn structure on the King's side and at this moment we still have to develop our pieces. So we expect a move like Bd6, Nc6, Nf6 or perhaps c5 5.Nf3 Bg4?! I think that the Bishop has a better place on e6. The pin looks nice, but also leaves Black with an undefended piece. 6.O-O Nf6! A nice move. Now Black both develops a piece, defends the Bishop and the square h7. 7.Bf4 Re+ looks very tempting 7...Be7! enables castling and removes the + from the Re+ move 8.Nbd2 O-O There is nothing wrong with the castling, but if it is Black's intention to exchange his Knight for the two pawns the Rook can better remain at h8. 9.h3 Bh5?! Be6 or Bd7 seems to be safer 10.g4 Nxg4?! It was still possible to escape by Bg6. The differences between this position and the position in the Chatard-Alekhine Attack are a nice subject to study. 11.hxg4 Bxg4 White has gained a piece for two pawns, but he has to play very careful. Black has to attack as soon as possible for example by ...Bd6, though I think that even this move isn't fast enough. The problem is that Black has done some unnecessary moves in the opening. 12.Kh1 Nd7 not fast enough 13.Rg1 f5 h5 is better, because it is better to move the passed pawn ahead and because it doesn't block the escape squares of the Bishop 14.Qf1 Bg5? This is not a nice exchange. Black will exchange his Bishop for a Knight and the nice h-pawn will move to the g-line. In addition White's King is rather save now. 15.Nxg5 hxg5 16.Bh2 g6 17.f3 Bh5 18.c4 It is probably better to focus on the King's sides 18...c6 the same goes for Black 19.Re1 Kg7 20.Re6 Rh8 21.f4 g4 22.Bg3 Nf6 23.Bh4 Rf8 24.Qe1 Qd7? Makes it easier for White, but the position was impossible to hold 25.Re7+ Black resigns 1-0
