When playing e6 i was thinking about opening the e file to be controlled by my rook as well as allowing my queen to develop to f6 or h4. threatening the weak white f2 pawn. however what is the best line to go now. Bxb2 will gain a pawn.

what's the best line from here?

Thanks in advance

What to play next - 2008/04/20 19:46 Welcome to this forum

16...Qh4 is both a mate threat as well as an attack on the Bishop on h6, a double attack.
This will enable you to win the Bishop.

What to play next - 2008/04/30 09:10 18.Be3 will just meet 18...dxe3 winning a piece and the attack still continues (19.O-O exf2+ 20.Rxf2 Qxc4)

What to play next - 2008/05/01 02:28 ye i wasnt paying full attention

anyway the game has proceeded like this.

1 e4 c5
2 Bc4 d6
3 Qf3 Nf6
4 d3 g6
5 Bg5 Bg7
6 Nc3 O-O
7 h3 Nc6
8 Nd5 Nd4
9 Qd1 Nxd5
10 exd5 h6
11 Bf4 b5
12 c3 bxc4
13 cxd4 Bxd4
14 Bxh6 Re8
15 dxc4 e6
16 Ne2 Qh4
17 Nxd4 cxd4
18 Qa4 Bb7
19 O-O Qxh6
20 Rfe1 Kf8
21 Qd7

Kf8 was a mistake i know but what is the best approach from here?

is sacrificing the bishop an option for position by playing 21 exd5 22 Qxb7 dxc4 giving me a very strong 2 pawns on d4 and c4.

alternatively playing 21 Re7 22 Qxd6 losing a pawn but maintaining the bishop advantage. followed by something like 22 Qd2 23 b3 Qa5 24 Rd1 Qd8 making him move his queen or exchange which then leaves his d5 pawn under extreme pressure.

your thoughts are welcome

Re:What to play next - 2008/05/01 19:59 no, just wanting to clrify whether or not my moves were the correct ones. seems ok so far. i ended up winning the game through a v bad mistake on his part but he managed to turn my strong advantage at the start completely around and i am trying to disect how. seems i have done roughly what you guys have said so far.

I think the Kf8 was the begining of the end.

Re:What to play next - 2008/05/01 20:16 I actually played neither of those moves. It went 21 Rab8 22 Qd6+ Kg8 23 Rd1 exd4 24 cxd4 Rxe1+ 25 Rxe1
Qd2

only losing a pawn in the whole exchanges and leaving me in a relatively solid position in particular my queen now being much more effctive.

Re:What to play next - 2008/05/01 20:34 I like the alternative with 21...exd5 22.Qxb7 dxc4
White has to do something about the pawns, but this won't be very easy. E.g. after 23.Qb4 d3 24.Qxc4 d2 25.Rxe8+ Rxe8 26.Qc3 I still prefer to play with the black pieces.
The alternative 21 Re7 22 Qxd6 is probably also better for Black, but I should prefer to play the bishop sacrifice. This may partly be a matter of personal taste.
