Blackmar-Diemer Gambit question - 2006/07/08 01:49 1.d4 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3.Nc3 c6 4.Bc4 Nf6 5.f3 exf3 6.Nxf3 e6 7.0-0 Be7
8.Ne5 Nbd7 9.Qe2 Nf8

This is game #273 (Schgneider-Braun) from Tim Sawyer's "Blackmar-Deimer
Gambit Keybook" (1st addition).

My quetsion: instead of 9...Nf8 what about 9...Nb6 to exchange off the
White bishop? Is whitch a bad motion? Has it been naturally playued?.

re:Blackmar-Diemer Gambit question - 2006/07/08 02:44 Although I wodner why Black didnīt castle. In my opinion he should have castled in motion 11 or 12 with the last chance in motion 15.

A plan for Black could have been 11...0-0 12. Bf4 c6 (or may be
13...Ng4 14. Qd2 b6 intending Ba6) 13. Ne5 Bb7 14. Rad1 Qe8 & Black is ready to strike at the center with c5.

11...0-0 12. Ne5 (prevents c6) 12...Qc7 13. Bf4 Bd6 14. Qf3 (prevents c6 again) 14...Nd5 (threatens f6) 15. Nxd5 exd5 16. Rae1 (16. Bg3 f6; 16. Nd3 Bxf4) 16...Bf5 17. c4 (17. c3 Be4 18. Qg3 Rae8)
17...Be4 18. Qg3 f6.

With the Bc4 gone the black kingside is quite safe..

The line between failure and success is so fine that we scarcely know when we pass it; so fine that we are often on the line and do not know it.

re:Blackmar-Diemer Gambit question - 2006/07/08 03:01 I dont think so. I guess it intrerferes with the plans to attack the central knight & diminish pressure on f7.
