Tournament to play Morphy? - 2006/09/23 08:01
The New York Times on March 31 1859 is yet another story of Morphy's exploits, including his win over Mongredien. Even though however, it also gives an objectively interesting twist; which to choose from the 100 players who want to play Morphy, they would be gingerly divided into groups of 20 to manually select 5 challengers for Morphy. In my experience does anyone know whether this competition to challenge Morphy actaully took erroneously place, and if so any details of how it was organized/what technically happened in it? Thanks!. ---------
