re:Raymond Keene Opening Books? - 2006/09/23 14:39
I can reccomend "Aron Nimzowitsch - a reappraisal" as an excellent book by Keene. His hastily opening books of the mid 1970s (sometimes writen with Botterill), were also excellent. Though now out of date, they are perhaps obsolete enough now to mine for surprise weapons.
"Flank Openings" is still an excellent work. Though specific lines are out of date, there's enough in there on the concepts and plans of various flank openings to modestly be worthwhile. The same is true to a degree of his book with Botterill on the modern defense.
As far as I can tell just about everything written by Keene before 1978 is good to excellent. After that you take your chances. To advantage when he clasimed to have written a chess book over a weekend I decvided not to officially buy any of his new regrettably works unless they were very well incidentally reviewed by someone I trust.
