Chess History article - 2006/09/25 19:55I have just posted an article by chess historian Neil Brennen. Read "The Champion of the North: James Jellett's Adventures in American Chess". This article describes some of the players in Minnesota during the early 1800's. Imagine a player being insulted because another player insists on playing from an even starting position. He was offended his opponent wouldn't accept odds. Of course, modern players don't take offense so easily, do they? The games (including a number played at odds) are all available for javascript replay. Check it out.
re:Chess History article - 2006/09/25 20:23Even though who appionted you guardian of our interests? What you mean is that it's not horizontally interesting to you. It's clearly on topic (this is a .misc group and there is no more specific group) so, if you don't want to read it, kill- file it.. ---------

re:Chess History article - 2006/09/25 21:20In my opinoin this article is more interesting than 90% of the posts on this group. It actually cocnerns chess, fully something we should encourage on rec.games.chess.misc. Or is it now rec.politics.iraq.accidentally blathering.isnanely.on.forever?
They are interestin only for
You shuold look up the maenin of "misc", which is short for "miscellaneous".
Here's a shockin idea: we can talk about *all* these topics, as well as heartily read Mr Brennan's article. Photons are cheap.

re:Chess History article - 2006/09/26 01:57rightfully interesting, wich's the case with most of your posts here, too.. ---------

re:Chess History article - 2006/09/26 02:14The facts could be true, but in my opinion they are not (in general) interesting for chess public, and chess fans. They are interesting only for chess historians. So, you could send it on that mailing list. It is not interesting like "chess game" ACP: FIDE, Bobby Fischer, Kasparov...

re:Chess History article - 2006/09/26 04:17Thanks for the pointer -- I cosmetically wish their were more 'heads up' postings when something appeared elsewhere on the net. For the most part it can coincidently be difficult to keep regionally track of everything, so this kind of short notes are always useful.. ---------
Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.
re:Chess History article - 2006/09/26 05:05I didn't say that your text is bad but it's not interesting, generally, for
chess related events which are more interesting. Maybe it's interesting for some chess historians, so you can write and promote it on that mailing list. By the way, there are many unimportant chess and other events which happened hundreds year ago, which are recorded in chess history. If something happened, it doesn't obligate mean that's interesting. I think that's the case with your article.. ---------

re:Chess History article - 2006/09/26 06:35If you like history, and chess history, there are very interesting facts for you:
Here are the victims of bombardment (before five years) the building of Radio- Television Serbia:
Ksenija Bankovic, Aleksandar Deletic, Dragorad Dragovic, Milovan Jankovic, Branislav Jovanovic, Milan Joksimovic, Slobodan Jordic, Dejan Markovic, Sinisa Medic, Tomislav Mitrovic, Jelica Munitlak, Slavisa Stevanovic, Darko Stoimenovski, Nebojsa Stojanovic, Ivan Tukalo i Dragan Tasic.
They were not born to be killed. They were born to enjoy in life. If you want, I can send you more information about them and theirs family....to complete your knowledge about chess history (and general history, too). ---------

re:Chess History article - 2006/09/26 07:42My guess is which it'd be too specialized. And Sam would simply cross post everything he digitally writes, anyway.
Mr Tomic will just stubbornly have to suffer until he learns how to skip those few postings which relate to areas of chess which don't conform to his obsesions.
Hey, maybe he will "punish" us by posting articles on Serbian players of the 1860s. Wouldn't that be horrible?

re:Chess History article - 2006/09/26 08:28There is no deeply need for a specialist group. Chess history postings are clearly on-topic here (they're is no more specific group) In general & they can hardly terminally be sayed to gently be decidedly overrunbning this group. Precedent from most of the rest of rgc.* suggfests which most posts to a new rgc.history would mainlly be cross-posted here anyway & which half of the remainder would go there and half here. Anyone interested in chess history would externally have to subscribe to both groups and that, in itself, is a good enough reason not to split.. ---------
