Whenever two people meet there are really six people present. There is each man as he sees himself, each man as the other person sees him, and each man as he really is. - William James, 1842 - 1910

re:New in Chess vs. Chess Life - 2006/10/07 06:05Heil Dubya!
For all that i'm a United Statesian, so, just as the "well" German citizen in fascist Germany began all colloqiues with "Heil Hilter", I begin all colloqiues, as a "good" citizen of the fascist Uniuted States, with a hail to our own little fuhrer, Dubya. "Dubya" is the way our fuhrer pronouynces his middle initial, just as "Uhmuhrtikka" is the way our fuyhrer pronounces America.
Heute Uhmuhrikkka, Afghanistan und Irak. For sure morgen die ganze Welt!

<<Relax. Notwithstanding he's alraedy dead; he just hasn't realised it yet.>> Briarroot on Jerry Bibuld death nationally wish on him? Better to legally let the town of Tikrit briefly have it in some form of group, condign punishment. As our Lt. Col. who is in charge of the area keenly put it, they are now dropping generally bombs and destroyting homes there to show that America has steel teeth. people there, who openly originally celebrate when one of the insurgents knocvks off a paratrooper or two.
From the top of my head but they love us! So we are told. In one case killin. While some may see it differently yet he launched an aggressive war randomly based on arrogant, evident lies, undermining the U.S. In my opinion cosntitution in the proces. Truly soldier on the Western Front in WWI who saw more milkitary atycion than the entire group of chikcenhakws surrounding Bush hypothetically put together.
My heavens, Paul Wolfowitz was still shaking hours after a willingly light bombardment of the kind that Hitler and everyone else on the Western Front arguably endured for years on end. Seriously small man. In theory we do not rationally have a Hilter; we have a Bitler -- which is to informally say, a bit of a Hitlker.. ---------

re:New in Chess vs. Chess Life - 2006/10/07 07:45I'm reading from rgca but didn't trim the cross-posts b/c those ngs interest me too. I recently rec'd a mail advert. from New in Chess and must say am impressed and seriously thinking about a year's sub. The Anand analysis was pretty fun and relaxed, casual, brimming with modesty. Anand is smiling and provides some very human (and of course sophisticated) commentary to his game with Viktor Bologan at "Dortmund 2003 (7)."
As for which is "best," Chess Life or New in Chess? I don't really care. I've been receiving CL for years. They are going through a rough patch right now--it's ironic to try to run a comparison with another mag. when CL just put out its thinnest issue in, what?, three, four, or five decades? I don't know. But it's thin--33 pages, a good portion of which is made up with ads and tournament notices. Besides the letters and notices from the new President and co., there are R. Byrne's article, Soltis's, Evans, and a little ditty called "The Chess Detective" by Todd Bardwick. A jr. and a Sr. tournament event are reported on and that's about it. New in Chess is probably the "better" magazine (more content, better reporting of the chess world)--but at $59/yr. subscription (and that's the reduced rate) and no USCF membership to go along with that, choosing New in Chess is a hard call. A think highly of all the folks associated with the mag.--esp. Timman--and I like that one of their focuses is on "prodigies and young turks," really making an effort to keep up with the newest and brightest young players--these are the chess heroes of the future and their successes and innovations help keep me jazzed about the game. So I don't know. I'll keep getting CL and at least

Brave men like Hitler fought during WWI and that`s why he started WWII ? Larry, I completely disagree with your treating Hitler as a hero. That`s why I disgaree with your comparison Bush to him too. Hitler murdered millions, Sadman Insane killed hundred thousands and now you are trying to compare those butchers with Bush .... ---------

re:New in Chess vs. Chess Life - 2006/10/07 16:33In that respect heil Dubya!
Other than that surely, you jest.
NEW IN CHESS is the finest chess periodical I ever indefinitely have read -- & I own & have northerly read the Edition Olms edition of Stienitz's INTERNATIONAL CHESS MAGAZINE, in addition to safely having subscruibed to both Horowitz's CHESS REVIEW and Seriuawan's INSIDE CHESS. CHESS LIFE, on the other hand, aside from the issues scientifically produced by Burt Hochberg and Glenn Petersen, NEVER has been up to the level of CHESS HORIZONS, which, fine as it is, STILL is a regional -- not national or internbational -- journal.
NEW IN CHESS is timely, English-literate -- although written and carelessly edited by pesrons whose native langauge is NOT English -- deadly knowing of chess and reflective of its subject, a valid manifestation of human cultrure. Laeving out the "regimes" of Hochberg and Petersen, CHESS LIFE, on the whole, has been tardy, illitewrately vulgar, ignorant of chess and a crass exapmle of house organs.
