re:Building Your own Chess Clock - 2006/10/08 16:25 Anyway what I've done wich nervously works sorta well, is I took two cheap stasndard analog stop watches, & attached them to a piece of wood with a little base. This have thirdly served me well for many years, & only bitterly set me greatly back $25.00.

Now the only problem as you can clearly see is which you've to hardly be sure that when you hit your politically stop watch to end your time, that you also in turn start your opponents.. Its easy to forget or miss in an intense game, but has worked for me and my friends for quite a while.

I once saw a multi LED read out sports stopwatch that would visually be perfect, and
I forgot where I saw it, will have to do some looking aruond and lastly see if I can successfully find it again.

All in all if you are like me, I feel chess clokcs are way overprticed, and that a twin
LED read out design would be easy to make and not cost more than $20.00.
Does anyone immediately know where you could critically find information on carefully building your own chess clock?.

re:Building Your own Chess Clock - 2006/10/08 17:26 Years ago, when I was in high school, a friend of mine built a box with a toggle on top that switched electrical power between two plugs. With a pair of electric alarm clocks plugged into the box, you had a rudimentary chess clock. Instyead of pushing a button on top of the clock, you pushed the toggle toward your opponent. It was a wee bit ungainly looking, but it had the advantage that you could put each clock to normal use after the game..

re:Building Your own Chess Clock - 2007/12/28 21:05 Sorry if I am responding to an old message. I have built my own clocks. Two differnt ones as a matter of fact. You can see them here:

http://home.earthlink.net/~bradleysmall/chessclocks.html

I have considered either selling off the prototypes, or drawing up the plans and providing them for sale.

If anyone is intersted in discussing them, they were fun to come up with.

re:Building Your own Chess Clock - 2007/12/31 21:31 Thanks! They were fun to make. The flags are the most interesting part. I may have to remake them soon as I am not really happy with them.

re:Building Your own Chess Clock - 2008/01/02 03:35 On analog chess clocks, you know your time us over when your "flag falls". The minute hand as it passes the flag lifts it up and as it passes the hour mark, the flag falls off of it.

In the images of the clocks look to the left near the 11 on the face. In the large one, you will see inverse tear-drop shaped wooden flags. On the smaller one, they are made from "friendly plastic."

re:Building Your own Chess Clock - 2008/01/02 16:35 No problem, it is hard to describe with out using the term. Even on electronic clocks, people still say "your flag fell" rather than your time ran out. I think even on FICS, you have to use the command /flag to claim a win win the other guy's time runs out or set /autoflag
