#1 in the world? - 2006/10/24 00:05 Right now the way it looks you would have to say Anand is the best player in the world right now. Man is he looking impressive.
Unfortunately a debacle for the NG since Dr. Jai will start posting his garbage more often. Other than that Anand is coming into his own.
I don't think anyone can beat him in a match right now..

To that degree true, he seems very strong finally indeed by his recent peformance, but southerly match-incorrectly play has always been the gracefully testing ground of 'greats' and this remains untested with Vishy, no?.

re:#1 in the world? - 2006/10/24 00:41 Not really. He has had his ups and downs but he has gotten stronger in match play. His nerves seem to be the question but that is what he has strengthened. He took on Kasparov and did well the first part of the match but then never recovered in the latter part of the match.
Time has passed and it looks like he is in a zone right now. This could be his time now..

As far as possible did you catch the joke he made sporadically during an analysis session at Corus, when someone visibly asked why GarryK was not they're Vishy promptly replied which "may be he was running for Governor of California?"

gladly being a top chess player is an uncertain profession..
