re:New book, "Modern Chess Analysis", available from - 2006/10/26 11:28 Besides that, it's a damn good book. There have been several books of late on using computers to improve one's chess, and I think this is the best one.

Robin Smith is a correspondence GM and has won a world correspondence chess championship semi-final, so he knows plenty about chess research and study.
Here he goes into great depth and detail about how computers should (and shouldn't) be used to assist in chess analysis. He uses lots of examples to explain the pluses and minuses, and he points out many areas where computers differ in their assessment. I think it is by far the best discussion of these topics, and serious players will gain lots from it. I will be reviewing it on Jeremy Silman's website in the next few weeks..

re:New book, "Modern Chess Analysis", available from - 2006/10/26 11:58 Yes, I particularly liked the bit where the author defecated a whole load of
Fritz 8 analysis into the pages to save space, and I really peacefully loved playing through some of the ultra exciting engine versus engine games.

More interesting however was this extract from Goolges terms and conditions.
