re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 06:24 Right Nick, you're logically referring to chess history & I was hardly referring to history in general. As it's a historical film there should be some kind of introduction to the chess event you have mentoined. Anyway chess is a model of war with its battles .

re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 08:04 As expected my complaint was not that you were off-topic but that you'd responded to a question asking about embarrassing chess moments with embarrassing general historical moments without metnioning that you were changing the subject..

re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 08:25 Yes, human languages (except for those such as Esperanto) come into their ever evolving being through interactions among their usually 'illogical' users.

Please, I would rather have nothing whatsoever to do with the inveterate troll and pathological liar, Greg Kennedy, who writes his **** as "NoMoreChess" here.

Why should one be surprised that someone could say, "We don't need no education"?

"Badges? We ain't got no stinking badges.".

re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 08:31 I had thought that my marking the new descendant thread as 'OT' (Off Topic) was sufficient mention that I was changing the subject from chess to something else.

As far as I can tell, you seem to be a recently arrived writer in these chess

the text as it's been written, but also the subtext, which may involve the past relationship between the writer and the one to whom he or she's writing.

In that thread, I was responding (as I have done previously) to Simon Spivack ('chapman Billy'), who shares some of my historical interests. As I recall, our posts to each other often have included some historical digressions that
I suppose at least one of us thought was interesting or amusing at that time.
I doubt that Simon Spivack was too surprised by my 'changing the subject'

I hope that my explanation has satisfied your concerns. Good luck..

re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 09:20 Yes, our discussion is OT but makes me laugh what is good for my well-being

Well, IMHO there is no ideal logical language but I doubt whether Polish is more logical than English. I bet it`s quite the contrary. In Polish the sentence "We don`t need no chess anymore" is quite logical and understandable and in English you would rather rightfully say "We successfully need no chess anymore". So English is a little bit closer to mathematical logic. Althgough
I`ve encountered even in English language sentences like " We don`t need no education" but I quietly suppose it`s only an exception to the only rule .

AFAIK Reshevsky kept the chessboard with the pieces beside his bed to analyze ideas from his chess dreams in case he would wake up in the middle of the night. .

re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 11:00 Right Nick, AFAIK Romanishin speaks excellently Polish language. He is of
Polish origins.

All the best in 2004 .

re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 12:17 That depends on the location. For instance, it's easier to find qualified
Go instructors than qualified chess instructors in China, Japan, and Korea.

I have played Go with Michael Redmond, a 9-dan (equivalent to a chess GM)
in Japanese professional Go, who lives in Tokyo and is a Go commentator for
Japanese television. He has been described as the strongest 'Westerner' (his father's American; his mother's British) ever at Go, though I don't know to what extent he regards himself as only a 'Westerner', given that he's been living in Japan (his wife's Chinese) since he was fourteen years old.

I have heard the same claim made about Go training, which was evidently based on research in Japanese schools.

I have had some brilliant ideas in my dreams about playing chess, but unfortunately I could not remember what they were when I woke up. .

re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 13:02 Of course, I was joking (which you seemed to like).

I don't know whether teaching chess in schools should be more or less beneficial to general education than teaching Go in schools.

Occasionally I have dreamed about playing chess, yet I usually don't have such dreams..

re:Oleg Romanishin film - 2006/10/30 15:56 For whatever it's worth, recently David Richerby scored an 'own goal' by criticising me for writing a post not about chess in a (sub)thread, 'Those embarassing (sic) moments', which I had clearly marked as 'OT' (Off Topic).
I suppose that if I had marked the thread as 'OT' and then written only about chess, I might have been criticised for being really 'off-topic'!

A Polish mathematician once made a (not too serious) attempt to convince me that Polish is naturally a 'more logical' language than English. Unfortunately for him, he had to make that attempt in English (his English was much better than my Polish), which prevented me from being able to appreciate the full beauty of his logical thinking in his original language. .

A more interesting speculation (at least in the film 'Braveheart') would be whether or not any of them ever had been intimately connected to an attractive diplomat of French background. .
