re:Aryeh Davidov: Mig, the greatest chess annotator - 2006/11/08 00:08
Mig, who was once (and may still be, as I'm only here occasionally) a regular poster on these boards, comes under attacks like this fairly often.
He never claims to be of particularly great playing strength, and doesn't really search for analytical "truth"-- usually being wise enough to leave that to stronger players. Instead, what he aims to do is make top GM chess accessible to average players with minimal effort. It's perhaps an impossible goal, but few GMs really try.
It's also worth pointing out that Mig got these gigs simply by writing articles that people liked to read, often for free, often here on r.g.c.*! If you think that somebody else would do a better job, by all means encourage them to do the same, and if they prove better at it then then I'm sure they'll get hired as an annotator.. ---------
