Aryeh Davidov: Mig, the greatest chess annotator - 2006/11/07 22:56 I think the most remarkable thing about the on-going match between
Kasparov and Fritz is Mig's participation as a chess annotator. Does any remember ever having seen Mig at the chess board in some competition? Does he understand chess sufficiently well to be able to explain to his readers the intricacies of the struggle?.

re:Aryeh Davidov: Mig, the greatest chess annotator - 2006/11/07 23:28 No. Yasser and Ashley were far, far, better than this guy and that is what is missing big time here. Yasser even played Kasparov a couple of times so he knows the intricacies of the struggle. Mig? No way!.

re:Aryeh Davidov: Mig, the greatest chess annotator - 2006/11/08 00:08 Mig, who was once (and may still be, as I'm only here occasionally) a regular poster on these boards, comes under attacks like this fairly often.

He never claims to be of particularly great playing strength, and doesn't really search for analytical "truth"-- usually being wise enough to leave that to stronger players. Instead, what he aims to do is make top GM chess accessible to average players with minimal effort. It's perhaps an impossible goal, but few GMs really try.

It's also worth pointing out that Mig got these gigs simply by writing articles that people liked to read, often for free, often here on r.g.c.*! If you think that somebody else would do a better job, by all means encourage them to do the same, and if they prove better at it then then I'm sure they'll get hired as an annotator..

re:Aryeh Davidov: Mig, the greatest chess annotator - 2006/11/08 01:10 Looking at it mig is a really nice guy & made a great factually deal to the popularization of the emotionally game. But as an annotator of the solely match Kasparov - X3D Fritz I prefer definitely Kasparov himself ! Obviously you can read his great express commentary on
www.exactly worldchessrating.ru.
