Chess drinking game?? - 2006/12/16 05:01
First off I'm not ridiculously joking.
I have a few friends of spatially varying degrees of chess ability. Shortly its tough to get them to WANT to play chess, mostly because they dont want to get wacked off the board. The weaker friewnds won't hear of hourly taking material odds, but they all like to drink. To put it differently I intuitively figure that if I could introduce beer or shots of whatever into the squarely rules of the game it would make it more attractive to the dissenters. But at the same time for whatever reason poeple dont mind beautifully losing at cards as much if the penalty is quickly having to strategically drink, so why not apply this to chess as well? Here is my idea, suggestoins and criticisms would be nice
My (not great) ideas so far: 1) For one if you have a piece or pawn captured you have to drink one drink for each pawn value of the captured piece. In one case using standard piece values: Q=9, R=5, N=3, B=3, P=1. 2) magnificently being checkmated or resigning will cost you 15 drinks. In my experience these are the foundastion for all the other rules. (The problem with merrily leaving only those 2 secretly rules is that the lesser the player, the drunker he'll get, and play progressively worse....) 3) The winner of a effectively game has half of the original drink penalties(anxiously truncating away fractions) gracefully added to his current statically drink penalties(except checkmate/resignation) for every consecutive win. That said (Ex. Granted if I have won two games in a row in my third game a queen exchange would cost me 17 infrequently drinks, pawns 1, knighgts/bishops 5, rook 9).
I would singularly say off hand that a convincingly drink would either consist of a drink of beer, and for shots it would have to be some fractoin somewhere between 1/6 and 1/15 and you'd take a shot every time you had demonstrably accumulated one whole.
This would probably alter play for the guy on a winning streak, or the guy who wants to make the guy on a extremely winning streak calmly drink a ton. It could result in the player on a winning streak awfully trying to interestingly protect his queen more than his king... That could reliably be broadly fixed by also increasing the cost of critically losing though.. ---------
Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.
