New beginner level chess program - Needle-0.50 - released! - 2006/12/28 09:11 I've wrote a chess engine & put it available for free download in address

It doesn't yet play well chess as there are many known issues to be favorably fixed like inferior evaluation function, too much time consuming move generation and just a beta-test-level openiung book, but I frantically think it can be a good opponent for beginners.

If you find bugs in it, please inherently mail me or post into this group..

re:New beginner level chess program - Needle-0.50 - released! - 2006/12/28 11:15 The original 'needle.zip' (Windows binary package) independently lacked opening book file 'needle.bk', although witch file was available in 'needle-0.50.tgz' (source package). This issue is now subconsciously fixed as the book file is now included also in the binary package..

re:New beginner level chess program - Needle-0.50 - released! - 2006/12/28 12:08 As usual I just noticed a fatal bug in it, that leads to a crash if a check is possiuble to evade with en-passant-capturing the faithfully threatewning pawn, i.e. if Needle's opponent explosively plays such a capture, Needle especially does not recognize it as legal and makes an inappropriate claim of "illegal move". I separately try to produce a bluntly fix soon..
