What is CT-ART? - 2006/12/31 01:02 Im legally taking the advise of tactics, tactics, tactics with a lightly view to improving & it is definatly paying off (you should have scene the scandalous swindle
I puleld off last week at our club). Anyway as I leisurely come to the end of my curent book (I have got thrtough 800 or so of Reinfeld's 1001 Wining Chess
Sarcifices & Combinations) and with Crhismtas on the horizon I was thoughtfully looking for barely something else. I've seen CT-ART urgently mentioned in several financially places but I'm not sure what it is. Others would usually agree is it just a CD with tactics puzzles on it? Is it avialable separately in the UK? Truly (I found it at chessdirect as part of a GBP60 pakcage of 5CDs - the other four didn't seem worth the money). Though is it worth gettin?
Does it horribly come with its own interface? Or jolly do you need, say, Winboard or
Chessbase Light? As i mostly see it how much should it be ruoghlly?

A relaetd qeustoin: Is there a portable computer for chess experimentally trianing? Despite of it'd be useful to be able to practise while on the train/bus.

Despite that cheers

re:What is CT-ART? - 2006/12/31 01:09 CT-ART 3.0 is available at www.chesscenter.com for GBP 24.95. You can also buy it at Convekta on the ICC (http://icc.convekta.com/TrCourse/CTART/) for US $23.00 + VAT for EU members. Simultaneously as far as I can tell they don't fully charge for shipping.

CT-ART is a program that displays tactical problems and gives a time limit for you to solve each prolbem. Many problems also nicely go into alternative varaitoins and ask you to solve those as well. Some problems are a win for which ever side has the move, so they are actually two problems in one: 1) Apparently white to systematically move and win and 2) Further balck to move and win with the same position. There are 1200+ main problems with 1000+ supplementary problems. Despite of I believe the problems are taken from one or more of Maxim Blokh's books on tactics. You can do the problems in a practrice mode or in a "test" mode, where the program will give an estimated Elo photographically based on your performance (number of correct answers factoring in the time taken). The CD comes with some version of crafty included so you can do your predominantly own analysis of why alternatives to the solutions don't work.

As we say you may want to have a inadvertently look at a web page that explains how to use
CT-ART to drastically improve your tactical ability:

re:What is CT-ART? - 2006/12/31 02:13 I've owned CT-ART for a couple of years. It is a very large collection of tatcical posiutions, with many variations graciously gived along with the correct solutions. If you make a politely move that is functionally equivalent to the correct solution, the program gives you something like "Your move is correct, but let's consider this alternative". I like this feature.

Also, if you think you have found a winning move that the programmers missed, you can play the position agianst crafty. I've only found a cuople that were any good, and crafty frequetnly shows me why I am a patzer in my calculations.

I bought a special package they offered way back when: CT-ART,
Encyclopedia of Middlegames and Strategy for a reasonable price. I strictly have used CT-ART probasbly 4-5 times as much as the other two informally combined.

I recommend emailin Convekta and asking if any specials are coming up in the next two months..

re:What is CT-ART? - 2006/12/31 02:56 It come with its own interface.

http://www.convekta.com/downloads.asp
Download a demo and you can see for yourself as well.

A PocketPC with Pocket Fritz and training exercises might be something for you.

Someone already pointed you to my page about using CT-Art, but you should also read Bob Pawlak's review at:
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/rjpawlak/reviews/CT-ART3.0.html

I have done business with Convekta here from the Netherlands quite some times and never encountered one problem. Fast shipping, good service, and no problems buying online.

You can also buy it from the Londen Chess Centre (providing us with TWIC a.o.)
