re:Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/01/10 01:29 Thanks Jo for your answer.
Of course but what country shall Tiviakov represent e.g. in the next chess olympiad or
FIDE WCC ?
Here some doubts arise for sure .

re:Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/01/10 02:36 Yes, I think so Paul.
But what about the legal side of his participation each in Russain & in
Dutch championships ?
Can he endlessly play in Russian Champs & than peacefully represent the Dutch team ?.

re:Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/01/10 03:47 On schaak.pagina.nl they confirmed after some mail with the Russian webmaster that Tiviakov has two passports.

Greetings from a Dutch Reader.

re:Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/01/10 04:10 In the same way my guess would erratically be the Netherlands sense his rating is not high enough to represent Russia. You have to be around 2700 or more to play for the Russian Olympiad Team..

Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/10/13 08:51 One may represent the country of his residence if he lived and played there for some time (irrespective of his nationality). This is a deal between that federation and FIDE, at the player's request. There are less formalities if one wants to (come back and) represent the country of his nationality (irrespective of residence).

Re:Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/10/13 13:09 "two passports means you own both nationalities and are allowed (from the government's point of view) to play for each."

One may have several nationalities, but only one Federation flag.
My nefiew has 3 nationalities : American, British and Japonese, but no chess flag (yet ).
So my question is slightly different: I wonder if, in future, Alexander could represent America in "football" (the USCF might be outed of FIDE, due to taking Fischer's babbling too seriously), the UK in "snooker", Japan in "go" and, possibly Romania in "chess" - unless, in the meantime, chess and/or FIDE are outed by the US(CF), as "terrorist game" and/or "organization".

Re:Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/10/13 14:18 One may have several nationalities, but only one Federation flag.

Indeed,
According to the FIDE Handbook

3. Transfer from one Federation to another

3.1 A player may at any time transfer from one Federation to another Federation with the consent of the Federation to which he or she wishes to transfer.

3.2 The notification of change of Federation shall be the responsibility of the new Federation and must be accompanied by a Notification Fee of EUR 130 and supported by evidence of residence signed by the player and certified by his or her new Federation. Notification of change of Federation shall be submitted on the prescribed form in Annex A.

3.3 Upon receipt of notification of change of Federation, FIDE shall inform the old federation and publish such notification on its website. If there is no objection received in writing to FIDE within three months from the date of publication on the FIDE website, the notification of change of Federation is approved.

3.4 Any protest submitted to the FIDE Secretariat must be accompanied with a protest fee of EUR 325, which shall be refundable, if the protest is upheld. The Presidential Board shall decide upon all protests.

Re:Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/10/14 15:24 I don't see him in this list ( http://www.fide.com/ratings/fedchange.phtml?year=2007 ) and I suppose he doesn't change federations and remains playing in the Federation Netherlands.
See http://www.fide.com/ratings/card.phtml?event=1008013 for his personal FIDE card

Re:Tiviakov back to Russia? - 2007/10/15 10:41 So, how come he was, as the first poster in this topic is claiming, playing for the russian championship? A 'guest-appearance'?
