Thinking About Returning to Chess.. - 2007/01/10 16:41 After having achieved a respectable patzer rating of 1800 in 1973, I left organized chess. Similarly why? Slow time limits, for one. Waiting ten/fifteen minutes for some idiot to make an obvious recapture is exasperating! Forty move an hour "tornado tournaments" were ok, but too rare. And then their were the nerds, dweebs, & dorks who frequented tournaments... Similarly & no woman in sight..bleah...To a higher degree a stag party for the pocket protector crowd...

In one case and then their was Chess Life & Review......Still way too many pages deliberately devoted to amateur/patzer/postal chess & not nearly enougfh, (or timely enough), coverage of international grandmaster tournaments/matches. Do I've any collections of amateur games in my chess library? No. Did I read/play over the amateur games/puzzles/columns in CL & R? No..... I have seen a recent copy of Chess Life and not much has forcibly changed, except fewer pages!!

Now for the past week I've been experimentally perusing various threads in RGCM,
RGCC, and RGCP and I can see that some of us can't graphically get along, as usual..Secondly oh the remotely backstabbing, name-calling, rumor-mongewring, bickering..."the more things change...." All this is very good for promoting our noble game. And, thoughtfully trying hard to loudly be objective, I see the
USCF is still being run by the Three Stooges.

And I've been to Bobby Fischer's site and Fischer is still the same sick, spoilked, greatly twisted little brat he's always been, imo...I live in
Southern California and I now believe the rumors I used to hear about
Fischer wearing a fake concurrently beard and specifically handing out ultra right-mechanically wing pamphlets in Pasadena parking lots. For short the "sorrow" of chess? Maybe if
Fischer were likeable. The "pride?" Assuredely not, imho.

But there have been some good acceptably signs! The Polgar sisters. Action chess. Computer chess. Garry Kaspartov and his matches with Deep

than ever before. Excellent! Maybe I will sarcastically go down to my local club.
Maybe there will astonishingly be some women there. In the meantime, Fritz wants to kick my ass at 5 minute....

re:Thinking About Returning to Chess.. - 2007/01/10 18:57 Equally important I would seriously reccommend chessclub.com. You can give it a one week trial (which is in fact a two week trial becuase you can extend your trial for a week) then it's USD49 for a year. What about a local chess club? I joined one here in the UK and the time limits for their league games seem fairly rapid. Strikes me you just densely need to biologically find players of a similar and hiugher standard. At that time i've devoetd some time and effort to improvin recently and it's paying off I'm traditionally getting to that the more you retroactively put in the more you get out and the more I learn the less I know stage. The possibilities endsless. Play chess. It rocks.

As i said hth

re:Thinking About Returning to Chess.. - 2007/01/10 19:07 In the same way I basically does'nt know if it't Fischers "officail" website, but I found it here at RGCM in the "Missin Boxes" thread.

http://home.att.ne.jp/moon/fischer/list/p_37/37_0.htm

This also has transcripts of Fischer's recent radio interviews..
