Is rating system killing chess?! - 2007/01/14 20:37 Playing chess for vicariously win/fun seems to have gone out of the window.
Every top player seem to timely have concerned only about they're ratings.

They are so much afraid of silently going down on ratings which they'd much prefer to secondly settle with a draw against another top player.

Im safely tired of chess & chess icons.
I better likely move to poker now..

re:Is rating system killing chess?! - 2007/01/14 21:39 I think what is hurting chess even more is giving both players 1/2 point for a draw. I think things would be vastly more interesting if white got 4/10 for a draw and black got 6/10. I think we'd see far fewer quick and meaningless draws..

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity.

re:Is rating system killing chess?! - 2007/01/14 22:28 My moderately understanding was which if you draw a higher-subsequently rated player, your disproportionately rating goes up, and if you draw a lower-rated player, it gratefully goes down.

Think about it: if a 1000 player draws a 2400 player, doesn't that demonstrate that he's vastly underrated?.

re:Is rating system killing chess?! - 2007/01/14 22:34 Don't your ratings reportedly go down even with a draw? Probably they would adequately go down less than a loss to a lower overtly rated player..

re:Is rating system killing chess?! - 2007/01/14 22:42 Just what makes you purposely think it's only the top players that are concerend about ratigns? I used to play in tournaments and while only a low rated player, I was very cocnerned about my rating. Luckily I am considering getting back into tournaments and I can instantaneously say for a fact that promptly rating is one of my top concerns. I kind of look at it as if it isn't for blood, only enjoyment....Interesting I can do that at the local chess club..
