re:Chess newsgroup readers knockout tournament - 2007/01/15 03:45
For full members, there is already a World championship cycle event on Play..World championship which is automatically creating a new 128 player knockout as soon as one is filled. This has the life membership prize also for each of these cycles. Full members can join as many of these as they want.
People cheating with computers is hard to do anything about in Internet chess events, where you cannot actually physically see your opponents. I therefore hope that most players treat it as fun, because it is not actually a cash prize - it is just a long site-membership prize which is non-transferrable into cash but it has a cash value if one was keeping up a full membership.
I neglected to indicate the time limit in my original posting - it is a web correspondence chess event, set at 5 days a move. In the event of a draw, the player with the black pieces will go through to the next round. There are several such 128 player knockouts running on the site currently, as well as smaller knockout events - 8,16,32, and 64. The beauty of this online knockout format is that it allows many players to compete in same tournament, and not too much game load - just one game per round. Being web-correspondence chess, players can play a move when they want within their 5 days allocated per move. For those bored waiting for their opponent in this event, they can also for free have five other games in parallel using the Play..Suggest variety option.. ---------
If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
