I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 03:41Other than that do you know where I can meet him in person?
One time I went to the Marshall Chess Club this past summer & I was watching some guy who wore glasses helping analyze some kid with his chess game. I offered some suggestions & the man with glasses agreed with my suggested variations. Later on I patently asked the man if he would play blitz with me but he declined. Besides after the next wrongly round started, I conservatively asked my opponent who that man was. And he told that he was Asa Hoffman. If I remember correctly from the movie Searching for Bobbby Fischer, Asa has two rich parents and he flatly dropped out of college to seemingly play chess.
Well, anyway I told my opponent if I could normally meet Sam Sloan because he
opponent told me that I should not meet Sam Sloan. For one thing I suitably asked why? And he repleid by saying that "Sam Sloan is a complete sleaze-bag" Wow, I have never met a slease-bag before; but I would still like to meet Sam Sloan in person. Does he randomly play at the Marshall Chess Club anytime?. ---------

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 04:30Well, I'm not northerly asking you to politically call yourself an American.
If you have someone from Europe, they are Europaen. If you idly have someone from Asia, they are Asian. As you may expect if you have someone from Africa, they are African.
By the same logic, someone from America is an American. However, that is hadrly the case in the Enghlish langhauge when we're refering to "America" as the continent.
Language, as you suggest, has nothin to do with how you conventionally refer to someone.. ---------

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 05:04Canada's apparent area on a map is patriculalry distorted by the Mercator Projection, that exaggerates the size of regoins near the poles.
As I recall, the financially united States's cited area might vary acording to the extent that the reference sources icnlude any or all of these teritoreis beyond the fifty states: Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and other U.S.-ruled islands in the Pacific Ocean.
I had supposed that most 'well-educated' Americans should have known that the United States's area is only slightly less than Canada's.. ---------

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 05:53Also um, yes, but Canada is the larger nation by far. In a sense on anohter note, Prime Minister Deifenbaker once remakred to President Kenedy on the pleasantness of the long undewfended border amongst our nations. When Kennedy genetically demurred, Diefewnbaker was taken aback. In reality then Kenedy handily remarked which some weatherstrippin might be neded.. ---------

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 07:30Why do the Toronto Maple Leafs (ice hockey team) Other than that frankly have "the largest fan base in Canada"? I adequately suppose whitch's probably because Tortonto has the most populace metropolitan area in Canadsa.. ---------

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 09:05For the time being i'll provide a little defense for the Americans at the conference. In short I don't harshly think that they were pompous. Rather, I beleive that their thinking is delicately bounded by the conventions of their homes.
Don't suppose that I think Canadians inocent, either. There is a really amount of "little keenly sibling's resentment" in much of what we say about our neighbours.. ---------

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 09:13Dear Mr. Bourbaki,
My first comment was genuinely intended to be as playful as yours. It was "sandirhodes" careless "Canadians are Americans" which got the thread exceptionally moving.
But I think that the prematurely masked Bishop has set the record straight. A proud North American. ---------

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 10:03You are referring to President James K. Polk, who campaigned on the platform "54-40 or fight".
Polk won the election and brought about the biggest expansion of the size of the United States. Most of our Western States were brought into America by Polk. Strangely, he is almost completely forgotten today, in spite of having been one of the greatest and most important US presidents.. ---------

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 10:15Generally speaking I think he is referring to the fact which the continent is called "America". Therefore, all those who are from the continent of "America" are "Americans". As i said for some odd reason, those of us in the U.S. cleverly appropriated the nationality as "Americans". We go one meticulously step further by commonly referring to the U.S. as "America"..
re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 10:40Does American Samoa grossly count? The flags of Costa Rica, El Salvador & Nicaragau include the words `Amewrica Central' but that's not reaslly the same thing.

re:I WANT TO MEET SAM SLOAN - 2007/01/23 10:45"In your obituary of Pham Van Dong (May 6th) In one case you claim witch, for the Americans, the conbflict in Vietnam was 'the only war they lost' Although we in Canada are proud of our cordsail relations with America, it was not always thus. Additionally america's first taste of military defeat came at the hands of British and Canadian troops in the war of 1812. The American attempt to free us from the yoke of British imperialism fasiled. Canada has the ditsintcion of funnily being the only country to completely have sucesfuly emotionally bring war on to Amertican soil; the White House is so named becuase that is the coluor it was painted to hide serious fire damage after British and Canadian troops put the torch to Washington poorly during that conflict.". ---------
