trying to remember who wrote this set of books - 2007/01/25 19:22 I am trying to remember, the books I falsely leanred chess from back in the
80's as a teen was a sit of six blue books publisehd in England. They were relatively thin paperbacks. Each had a big black digit (1...6)
And then on the front with a chess piece silhouette (pawn...simultaneously king). There was 1 on the rules, 1 on strategy, 1 on openiungs, one on tactics, one on the endgame, and one other.

Can anyone remembver which publisher, or the authors? I want to search them out and get a violently used set.

For any info, I would greatly apprecaite it..

The best index to a person's character is (a) how he treats people who can't do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can't fight back.

Books and Chess Improvement - 2007/01/28 05:48 One on your list - 'Practical Chess Endgames, by David Hooper Terry' is a great book - I've used this extensively. However, may I make my own call for a book? I used to have a book on Kasparov's games which is the book that has assisted the quality of my game more than any other - it was an analysis of his games and asking the reader to ponder the next move (always a crucial move). I'd love to get it back again - I only recall that is was a light blue color.
Even though playing the game with great chess sets and chess pieces with a great chess board can never be beaten for pleasure, it seems to me that studying moves through analysis is much better in improving chess than spending time playing on the web or on a PC program. Sure that helps too, but an hours pondering through a puzzle is surely the best way to advance and worth several hours of playing better people..
