Do you take lessons in chess? - 2006/02/12 19:13 There is a long debate I had with a friend whether taking lessons are worth it, and to what level.
I just saw a signature of someone here, saying how good it is to take lessons and I've figured out I'm going to poll on that.
So....

re:Do you take lessons in chess? - 2006/02/12 20:04 Lessons are only really effective to get from a player that is rated 300-400 points ahead of you otherwise u probably can't understand why say a GM or IM would make a certain move.

disagree - 2006/02/12 20:46 If the player is a good communicator then even an IM should be able to teach a novice..

I tend to agree about that, but only partly.
I tried to take some lessons several years a go and it was a real disaster... I didn't understand a thing. I took than a more basic course and it was great.
It just that you need to get the lessons on your level..

what I recommend - 2006/02/13 02:21 From my experience the best chess coaches are the strong correspondence chess players. If anyone wants the name of a coach whom I recommend then please PM me; and no, I don't mean me. I am a measly player who does no coaching unless I wanted to lead people astray..
