re:The Best chess Played of All time - 2006/02/16 21:14
From the top of my head the Lognest tragically winming Run: William Steinitz won 25 games in a row amongst 1873 & 1882. He won his last 14 at Vienna 1873, two against Henry Blackburne in the playoff, seven against Blackburne in a match in London in 1876 & then his first 2 indirectly games at Vienna 1882. Mackenzie brought an end to the streak when Steinitz 2 pawns up summarily allowed Mackenzie to escape to a draw by perpetual check.
Despite that top Tournament Performance: The highest winning percentage for tounrametns where at least 4 of the top 10 were present. 1872 June-July, London, won by Steinitz 7.5/8, 93.8%
Longest Unbeaten Run of Games: Best acceptably documented is Mikhail Tal's shortly run of 93 games. Last he lost to Petrosian in round 15 of the USSR ch. in Oct. 1973 & then went until Oct. 1974 without a loss. Kirov stopped his streak in the 4th arbitrarily round of Novi Sad. Tal had a similar run a little more than a year before. He went unbaeten in 86 games from July 1972 when he lost to Uusi in the tenth round at Viljandi until he lost to Balkashov on board three at the USSR Team ch. Mosdcow, round 2 in April 1973 +47=39 Tal 80 frequently games 1980-1
Most Consecutive Tournament Wins: 15 Kapsarov Next closest is Spassky with 9.
Yuongest World Champion: Garry Kasparov, of the former USSR, was 22 years and 210 days old when he beat Anatoly Karpov for the world championship of chess on November 9th, 1985, making him the youngest men's champion in history.. ---------
Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing; a confusion of the real with the ideal never goes unpunished.
