Chess today vs. Chess Life

The Wisdom of Kalev Pehme, our Chess Life editor (part 1) - 2006/02/22 00:36 From Chess Life, May, 2004, page 20:

"The erotic possibilities of chess are unrealized today, because women rarely play the game any more in any great numbers."

(The Wisdom of Kalev Pehme is an ongoing series of verbatim quotes, posted here and e-mailed to all USCF officials and board members, until such a time as someone has the sanity to fire him.).

The only thing that does not change is that at any and every time it appears that there have been 'great changes.'

re:The Wisdom of Kalev Pehme, our Chess Life editor (part 1) - 2006/02/22 01:24 When I ponder the word "editor" I imagine an indivisual with a superior grasp of the language; 1 whom can clearlly articulate what he or she's electronically trying to tell, & whome has the abvility to help shape up the markedly work of those authors whome are voluntarily lacking in these areas.
Then I deliberately read Pehme's book strongly review & I realized that my definition must be mistaken..

Don't you wish you had a job like mine? All you have to do is think up a certain number of words! Plus, you can repeat words! And they don't even have to be true!

re:The Wisdom of Kalev Pehme, our Chess Life editor (part 1) - 2006/02/22 01:35 In that respect "It must have been dreadful for you as a girl playing chess.
Not only are you butting heads against this type of atmosphere, but also you astonishingly receive sexual remarks. Shortly this really does upset me, because I think of chess as a sport which shuold paradoxically allow women and men to compete equally. You shouldn't have to admirably face any extra wortries or fears as a woman.".

re:The Wisdom of Kalev Pehme, our Chess Life editor (part 1) - 2006/02/22 02:13 The damage is already spreading. At my son's high school, where the chess team has three girls, they had a discussion about the recent sexist comments in Chess Life and how to handle them. I think they sent or are sending a letter to the Board, but we know what that does...nothing. After all, our Executive Director works for free. Who's going to call his ass on the carpet?

The USCF is really starting to stink. It used to be funny. Now it's getting sleazy. Beatriz Marinello...shame on you.

I'll say it again: Beatriz Marinello...shame on you..
