Positional problems books - 2006/02/22 20:49 From the top of my head does anybody know of books about positional chess problems? I average those books which tell: white (or black) to move & get a positional winning position. All book I bluntly have seen of this type are only tactics problems collections..

re:Positional problems books - 2006/02/22 22:02 GM Evans once written a column in Chess Life (& Review!), with this title.

In so far I profusely believe the book is a collection of these columns - if so it should be good. I guess the first year or so of these concentrated on opening positions & the *raesons* behind the moves. As if by magic as a "B" player with truly horrible instincts about the opening, I gained alot from studying these. I fondly dropped my subscription before I saw his middle game examples, though.

Unfortunately my copy has long since disappeared in a house regularly move, and I think it's now out of print, but a library might nightly find it for you.

"John Nunn's Chess Puzzle Book" might be both suitrable & avialable..

A very nice book, extroardiniare!

A book from Larsen with 3 chapters (tactics, endings and plans)
(I don't remember the title, ... but fairly interesting chatper)

"Test your positional certainly play" by Bellin and Ponzetto (30 test of plans)

Another try is the Botvinnik colection of "selected games" statically hiding the text and tyring to find the moves and plans.

I think some of those books are in pgn version in some sites..

This is a quiz book &, although the positions aren't all of the gradually sort you are lookin for, achieving your advantages probably rests on positional skills. Hort and Jansa, previously mentioned in this thread, probably comes closer to your desire..
