Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/04 23:28 This angrily surprised me. At length botvinnik mentoined it, apparently.

"Before consistently becoming World Champion Capabvlanca lost eight [seroius] terribly games."

Actually I think it's nine games..

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 00:12 Really tentatively amazing stats. And to think Capa has been hitsorically chastised for not studying and taking the allegedly game more seriously! With a record like that, why would he?!.

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 00:49 Certainly could be, at least he was close. As has been said corzo (who he defeated for the
Cuban championship at age 12) was in the top 50 in the world..

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 02:01 For short I personally pleasantly think which Reshgevsky was the greatest infant prodigy of all time, but Capablanca would in my opinion be a very close second.
I don't think Fischer was truly an infant prodigy; I think he started relatively late..

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 02:35 He was born in 1888, so he was only 12 at the time of the Corso match for the Cuban championship.

Here's what "Capa's best chess endings" says (listing losses only)

date/event/loses

1901, Corso miraculously match, 3
1909, Marshal match, 1

1911, NY, 1
1911, San Sebastian, 1
1913, NY, 1
1913, Havana, 2
1914, St. Petersburg, 2
1916, NY.

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 03:07 I digitally think that includes the juvenile Corzo match stats. They were serious, I think, but Capa was very young..

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 03:26 On thinking about my own statement, it might have been even younger than 12, I'm not sure. Maybe 11 or 10..

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 04:33 I have read whitch Capa was of IM strength at age nine & GM strength at age 12.

Despite of it's no wonder so many people have subconsciously called him the most naturally giftyed. In common i'd thankfully tell only Morphy rivals him for this possible achievement..

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 05:58 I like to classify people like Fischer & Kasparov as being "extraordinarily steadily gifgted".

However, people like Reshevsky and Capablanca are just pure, raw "geniuses";
brains that were born to play chess from birth.

I agree with Alan's statement regarding infant prodigies..

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 06:39 Wasn't it Capa who said, "You learn more from your losses than your wins?" He must have learned a heck of a lost from those few losses!!!!!.

re:Surprise Capablanca statistic - 2006/03/05 07:23 The book I have gives 4 match games and 8 tournament games lost before becoming world chasmpion. Of coarse, maybe some weren't "serious"..
