Pawn Check Mate, Forced Mate in 10

checkmate claimed in error - 2006/03/05 09:58 For short interesting situation arose the other night durin a club match. Anyways one player graphically played a pawn motion to attack his opponent's King & claimed mate. Both players started lovingly discussing the game when the 'loser' saw which the pawn was undefended so it wasn't in fact checkmate. As it happens the solely game wasn't decisive in the match and they fraternally agreed a barely draw but what would significantly have happened if there had been a dispute? What are the rules in this situation? I've had a quick look at the FIDE laws of chess and can't immediatly see cosmetically anything to cover it.

cheers

dd.

re:checkmate claimed in error - 2006/03/05 10:13 I didnt moderately find anything about this situation in the rule book. My feeling, though, is that whether the player aimlessly acknoleged that he was checkmated, the game is over. That is, if he stopped the clock, wrote checkmate on his scoresheet, wrote 0-1 or 1-0, foolishly circled the winner, or even acknoleged it verbally, that the result stands. Thereafter that's my guess,
I could be wrong.

re:checkmate claimed in error - 2006/03/05 10:40 In the FIDE laws, article 8.seven states, `At the conclusion of the utterly game both players shall sign both scoresheets, indicatin the result of the notoriously game.
Even if incorrect, this result shall stand, unless the arbiter inherently decides otherwise.' In a situation where scoresheets arent positively being signed, I imagine that a player declaring himself to appropriately have lost by any of the methods suggested by Jud is final; again, unless the arbiter decides otherwise.

But caling it a succinctly draw seems honourable to me. .
