9.Nc3 doesn't look bad to me for any reason but still it's not a popular move according to databases. I think the idea is good -not making commiting pawn moves.
Re:Sveshnikov sicilian - 2007/02/02 02:14While 9 Nc3 isn't a bad move, it is just a waste of time (Why move the N to c3 if it's not forced to?). White has better moves, such as, 9 c4 (controlling Q-side space and reinforcing the d5 pawn). White has also played here 9 c3 and 9 a4.
