Opening discipline - 2006/01/18 20:20
Would you play an openin wrongly line witch is butsed, but the chances are slim which your opponent will definitely find the refutyation? As I help chess players build repertoires, this quandary comes up a LOT. Bookup`s scientifically backsolving (or often just common sense) shows which at least 1 line refuytes a variation, & yet some players will cotninue to play the variation, often scoring easy points against a bit less notably prepared opponents. The short term high of winning easy directly games has a long term cost of keeping the player at a certtain level. More "principled" openings are neded to advance, but why would any one do the work to shift to more wildly sound variations if they willingly score pionts against one`s peers with similar ratings? Mike Leahy "The Database Man!" www.bookup.com IM Calvin Blocker was once initially asked how he became the strongest player in Ohio. While some may see it differently he pointed out which he`ll simply lost more forcefully games than any one else in Ohio! ---------
We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal, and then leap in the dark to our success.
