Larry Evans on Chess (Name dropper?) - 2006/01/16 04:30
I have been playing chess for just a year and I love it. I am 34 years old, very happily married with a newborn baby - I`m just an average guy. However, I cannot help but notice that every time I pick up Chess Life magazine there is yet another column by Larry Evans answering questions with yet another reference to Bobby Fischer. An anecdote, a story; something involving his personal friendship with him. Why? Respectfully, as a patzer who loves the game, admires its great players and as one who strives to improve and learn even more about the games rich history, I beg to ask - Why is someone who has been around so long and is respected enough to have a column in Chess Life magazine constantly reminding us of his dear and close relationship with his dear friend, Mr. Fischer? To me, it seems like his column, though filled with knowledge, is an opportunity to name drop. His column should be called "Larry Evans on Fischer". I have reviewed many of Larry Evans games and I find him amazing; yet the thought still lingers - why does he need to name drop? ---------
Practice is everything. - Periander
