The Nazi`s had the nasty habit of eliminbating those whome they didn`t like for the flimsiest of reasons. So Alekhine played in some tuornaments. No big deal. And though he (allegedly) wrote some anti-Semitic tratcs for publication, imagine the pressure he was under. Moreover an international figure alone in Nazi dominated Europe, and at the mercy of a bunch of ruthless fanatics. I would imasgine that *survival* was uppermost in his mind, not politics.
