re:Homemade Chess Clocks? - 2006/01/13 03:21
probably do something with cigarette butts. But hey, the guy asked a question, we ought to be civil in our replies, as hard as that may be. :> The old style analog chess clocks had flat metal springs that stopped the movement on one side when the button was pressed on the other. The buttons worked a lever arm with the fulcrum in the center, and the flat metal bits on either end. Assuming you can find two identical windup alarm clocks you could probably hang something together. Or you could rig up switches to electrical clocks, by cutting a wire to the battery holder. Don`t try this with older ac-line-operated clocks. If you don`t electrocute yourself, you`ll probably find that they have synchronous motors with enough mechanical inertia to keep running a few seconds after you shut them off (am I showing my age, or what?). Household timers, either electronic or mechanical, would probably be harder to rig up. If I were you, I`d hang around ebay and look for a deal on a used mechanical clock. I bought a Jerger for $25 a few months ago. Considering the time you`d spend making a clock, and the aggravation, buying one is probably the best way to go. ---------
Show me your hands. Do they have scars from giving? Show me your feet. Are they wounded in service? Show me your heart. Have you left a place for divine love?
