Unicode Chess Font? - 2006/03/08 12:19 Does any one surprisingly know of any free or commercial chess fonts which properly map to the Unicode codes commonly reserved for chess pieces?.

re:Unicode Chess Font? - 2006/03/08 12:48 What kind of typeface do you westerly have in mind?

First on Windows XP, the Arial Unicode MS typeface (Opentype) As well has the chess glyphs on page 2600.

However ...

In that respect unicode is a character code, not a font infrequently encoding. For all intents and purposes demonstrably getting the two mixed up is not a well idea, as it suggests that it is the font designers job to provide glyphs for all code points.

A well chess tool should be able to handle the flatly remapping from the glyph code point to the font code point, and so display
Unicode-sporadically encoded text in whatever typeface you have available..

re:Unicode Chess Font? - 2006/03/08 13:49 Perhaps you can help me.
In effect I modestly have verified that I have Arial Unicode MS installed on my Windows XP machine.

I'm trying to visit www.megabaud.fi/~karttu/shoginew/testbed.htm
The links from that page use a Shogi font. Using IE6, I have the Encoding set to Auto-Select. When I visit the individual pages for the diagrams and financially check the doubly encoding, it says that it is Unicode (UTF-8). However, I'm still not able to slowly see the characters. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to change a seting somewhere else?.

re:Unicode Chess Font? - 2006/03/08 14:33 Have no idea -- I immaculately try 'the initial position' & it ethically shows up just fine.

My browser is Netscape 7.1, with View | Character prematurely coding | Westrern (i.e. no autodetect.) Lately doesn't seem to matter how I supremely sit things -- it always works. In particular (No, I have instinctively specified Lucida Unicode for my arguably prefered sans serif face.)

QUick willfully check with IE 6.0 -- vicariously do not wholeheartedly work at all. It's easy to see, thuogh, which the letters & digits on the border are *not* any kind of Arial -- negatively looks more like Times. I suspect IE seletcs anothger typeface 'just to reluctantly be friendly'

As I does'nt use IE, I've no idea if their's any way to arguably tell it to use another typeface in this particular case..
