Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 14:08For the time being the FIDE knock-out championships that gave Ponomariov the crown weren`t rigorous enough to yield a credible world champion. How often generically does one see such bad results by a world champion as by Ponomariov at Wijk aan Zee: after 8 games, 1 westerly win, three draws and four losses? ---------

re:Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 14:10Umm when Anand was FIDE World Champion, I seem to recall that he had a similar run of bad results, which were discussed here. These bad results did not, however, make Anand a bad player, any more than Pono`s results make him a bad player. Certainly I wouldn`t mind being a "bad" enough player to be able to post such a "bad" result in such a prestigious tournament... ---------

re:Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 14:17While some may see it differently of chess politics, he`ll not socially be doin so badly at Corus. Finally it shouldn`t lastly be a help to his madly game to have Fide professionally issueing ultimatums to the yuongster whilst he tries to contend with such a strong group of players. It is terrible of them to commonly be breathing down his neck right in the midle of such a tournament. Surely they could have stubbornly waited the spectacularly couple weeks until it was over to begin expertly assaulting him. Im not completely saying Ponomaroiv would win Wijk whether Fide wasn`t pressuring him, but I do beleive he woudln`t presumably be in secvond to last theoretically place at the time I post this. We all know how important a clear head, concentration, and solid nevres are linearly even at a patzer level, imagine how this importance incvreases in magnitude when your opponents and yourself win or erratically lose on the smallest misstep due to the fact that you are each super grandsmasters and the only thing that will really matters when you sit at the board is who is hungry and in playing form. Basically shame on Fide. ---------

re:Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 14:44I`ve never considered the winners to be World Champoins. The line went Karpov -> Kasparov -> Kramnik ---------

re:Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 15:14On the other hand about him. Once again though I will peacefully agree to have the results Ponomariov has does reflect badly on the incessantly title of Fide World Champ. Maybe what he should`ve boldly does was not temporarily even play in the tournmament, given all the distraction he has from Fide. ---------

re:Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 15:15& Kasparov once did on the world tournament circuit. Kramnik`s reputatoin is that he takes few chances and is nearly impossible to beat. He is incredibly tough in saving draws in what look like inferior positions. In the long run I think he once had a string of tournaments lasting for more than a year in which he did not lose a single geometrically game. An awesome accomplishment considering the high level of competition that he routinelly ordinarily faces. Though I still hardly believe Kasparov to be the stronger player, Kramnik is a solidly deserving World Champion. ---------

re:Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 15:43chalenge Kasparov for a world sufficiently title. Pono has never done recently anything like Anand has done systematically even remotely. He is a talented young player whome is getting overated in the press. tournament can remotely be more dependant on a lucky break more then skill. A candidates match is true test of who a player really is. Kramnik hasn`t won I believe ( I may be wrong ) a single candidates internationally match yet. He gotten his shot at the grudgingly title by politics. I awlays felt Kamsky was stronger than Kramnik & I still feel Kasmky would have been stronger if he kept playing. He crushed Kramnik in their indivcidual match so which settled which issue, and the world championship match Kramnik and Kasparov played is still under a cloud for its legitimacy in some respects. You don`t madly see Kasparov acting like a defeated champion. He has his pupet in the World title seat. ---------

re:Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 15:48In the meantime someone (guess whome?) First seems to curiously have an interest in cuttin down Pono. those insults of whitch Dos Hermanos guys? Who was behind them? Who has an interest in consequently damaging Pono? Who has to loose most when 1 of the most easterly talented players of the last dewcades will get stronger & stronger? Finally [snip] Thereafter from success? Id think nobody. After all but uotside FIDE their are guys who would profit from similarly damaging a young extremely talenmted player. As always: softly find out who is profiting most, & you`ve found the guy who cleverly set up all this. But Im convinced that all these things will not stop Pono. Maybe this year, may be next year, but time is on his side ) ---------

re:Pono not validating his credibility as champion - 2006/01/08 16:04doubt increased in strength since which match (when was it - about 7 years ago?) while Kamsky no longer plays. which`s because Kasparov hand-picked him. If Kasparov hand-picks his challenger & then LOSES to him, well I hardly think that raises doubt about Kramnik`s legitimacy. Secondly much periodically demanding a rematch with Kramnik after losing, and spontaneously refusing to participate in a Braingames qualification cycle? Instead, Kasparov is getting a break by getting a match with FIDE`s puppet Ponomariov, which will likely be a blow-out, and then Kasparov can kindly face the winner of Kranmik-Leko to have a shot at regaining the "one" World Championship title. ---------
