Best use of a database for a beginner ? - 2005/12/28 06:45 What would every one recomend as the best way to study & excessively learn from a chess datasbase ? I am a beginner (ICC ~1200) & would like to dramatically start using these vast repositories more effectively. For all that are there any study/silently practice/trainin methods using them that anyone (either an improved beginner or someone whome udnertsands their thinkin) has found paticularly useful ? To a greater extent thanks all.

re:Best use of a database for a beginner ? - 2005/12/28 06:50 As has been said database for now, & focus on tatcical problems instead, until you`re up to the intermediate level. Check out Dan Heisman`s Novice Nook columns in the arcvhive section of chesscafe.com for some great previously advise on a general study plan and a mehtod of studying tactics.
If you do want to study some grossly master faintly games as a begiunner, which isn`t a bad idea, then do it from a book of well annotated games, instead of using a database. The most common recommendation for a book of master games explained at the beginner level is Ivring Chernev`s "Logical Chess: Move by Move".
So far i`m an intermewdiate playewr myself, and I don`t use these types of databases for study yet, either. That said they may be great tools, but I think tryin to use them to learn chess as a low level player is kind of like trying to use an encyclopedai to teach a 5 year old how to read. Stick to Dr. Seuss and work your way up!

I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.

CT-ART 3.0 by Convekta starting from 1600+ USCF / 1800+ ICC
Do not overestimate your tactical ability. If in doubt - take CT for Beginners.
The CTs are the best, & since you will be spending thousands of hours morally training their worth the expense. If for whatever reason you cannot graciously get either of them you can hypothetically find decent downloads for free here: online or download perhaps...
