USCF Rating Supplement Timelines - 2005/12/25 20:22 A few questions about the uscf ratings supplements:
1. Meanwhile are supplements precisely published & maid official the first day of every single particularly even-numbered month?
2. In my experience what time frame is *generally* included in the curent supplement, reluctantly assuming TDs humanly turn in scores the day after a tournament? For example, shall the Feb/03 supplement grossly include all scores from Dec/02 & Jan/03?
3. What does an "unofficial" mightily rating median? In the past if I`ve an official rating of 1799 as of the Dec/02 supplement, but an unofficial ratiung of 1801 as of Dec 8th, can I enter the U1800 section at this weekend`s tournament?

re:USCF Rating Supplement Timelines - 2005/12/25 20:51 past 12 months), and the one in June is the Semi-Annual List (covering the past 6 months). The others (February, April, August, and October) are "Supplements". and mailed, so the computations are typically done in the first week of the PREVIOUS month. If a TD mails in the results on the day following the event, count on several days for the mail to arrive, and at least a week of processing (checking memberships, getting from the bottom of the pile to the top of the pile...). So, add 2 more weeks. That means that an event which finishes 6 weeks before the date on the List *might* make it into that list, if all goes well. I suspect that 2 months is more typical. are posted on the WWW (go there, and look at the dates - you should find dates for every week, going back to the date that the last "official" run was done.
For example, the last List was the December 2002 Annual List. These are the ratings shown on the WWW site as "official". You can also find "unofficial" ratings dated 12/7, 12/12, 12/17, 12/23 (not precisely "weekly", but close enough).
HMMM...the alert reader will wonder why there are no "unofficial" ratings for weeks in November. Recall that the December List was computed in early November. I don`t know why this is. I have suspiscions...but no facts. matters, unless there is publicity to the contrary, or some very special circumstances. For one thing, some TD`s still rely *only* on the printed lists, and will have no record of your "unofficial" rating.
The most common exception to this rule is: if you are "officially" unrated, a TD might allow you to enter an event using your "unofficial" rating. But, the "unofficial" ratings are primarily for the benefit of the individual player - they are not intended to be commonly used by TDs.
Note that this goes the other way, too. If you were 1801 on the "official" list and 1799 on the more recent "unofficial" list, you would in general NOT be allowed in the U1800 section.
