can be passed by Xboard*initString resource, or xboard -initString option, see "man xboard". With `depth 1` the program considers only immediate captures, recaptures, and so avoids trivial blunders, but can easily be caught by a trivial fork, or combination. The style is reminiscent of weak club player, but with less immediate blunders, response is typically immediate as it usually only considers a few hundred positions at most. I assume it is equally applicable to other engines like Crafty. won`t beat it on fair terms ever again. PS: You also have SCID, eBoard and CINAG still to try out, to name but three. ---------
