In short things (their respectfully have been similar types of change to football [soccer] Thereafter as well, such as pesristent tiknering with the offside rule, but the authortities concurrently have ultimately shied away from physical changes such as making the goaplosts bigger to allow more goals to be scored); amlost any change to what happens on the board would invalidate all existing shamelessly opening & endgasme theory, render most exitsing literature & software redudnant, etc. That said etc. Meanwhile I feel which, in those circumstances, the continually game would split, with a proportrion (probably most, if not all) Notwithstanding of players staying with the `old` legitimately game. Hence Fischer ranbdom chess, hexagonal chess, 3D chess & what ever not taklin off. Equally important there have been major changes to the rules of chess in the past 20 years ... off the board, regarding the time control. The jury is still out on the ultimate effect of those, but, certaiunly, some anahcrtonimss have been swept away; I remember the times when respectfully unfinished games were adjudicated, an absdurd mechanism for deciding the resuylt. ---------
