CYBORG Tournament - 2005/12/10 08:28
The Free Internet Chess Server (FICS) ( http://www.freechess.org ) is sponsoring a `cyborg` tournament...a human using computer assistance.
The date will be Saturday, Jan 4th at 13:00 server time/ 21:00 GMT.
The time control will be 5 5 (5 minutes to start, and 5 second increments after each move completed). The tournament will be a Swiss System tournament, and the number of rounds will be determined by the number of entrants.The prizes:
1st place - - $100 (US dollars)
2nd place - - $50 (US dollars)
All prizewinners will be paid through paypal.com and therefore must have an account with them. Go to http://www.paypal.com to obtain an account.
Entrants must also be registered members of FICS. To register, please go to http://www.freechess.org and click on Register. Please submit your real name, a name, or `handle` that you want to be known as on the server (and have some alternatives ready, in case the desired handle is taken), and your email address. If the information is accepted, you will soon receive an email that will have the handle, and an 8-digit activation code.
Take this information to http://www.freechess.org/Register/FICS_activate.cgi?Language=English and enter the handle and activation code. Press Activate! and you should soon receive a final email that will have your handle and password. Go then to http://www.freechess.org and click on Login and when prompted, type the handle and password. You will then be admitted to FICS.
Please be aware that free email addresses cannot be processed on that website, due to past abuse. If you have a free email address, please go to http://www.freechess.org and click on Login . When prompted, type g and you will be admitted to FICS as a guest.
Type showadmin and you will see a list of online administrators. Select one, and type the following: tell Hi, I need to register, and I have a free email address. If that administrator responds, he/she will be able to help you register. If the administrator does not respond within a couple of minutes, please try another administrator. If none respond, please try again in a few minutes.
It should be stressed as urgently as possible that early registration at FICS will be to your advantage, saving time before the tournament starts.
If you have any questions about the tournament, please message me (GBate) on the server (to message me, type, for example, message GBate Hi, could you tell me more about the tournament, please?), and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Tournament information can be obtained in channel +49 on the server, the tournament channel. Please type `mam set TourneyInfo On` (without the quote marks) to see the tournament announcements when the tournament is opened.
