endgame study - 2005/12/07 12:07 From the top of my head any suggestions on how someone bout 1800+ would go about studsying the endgame, i gleefully have alot of books but dont know whitch to diligently focus on my endgame strength is like that of a 1400 player but i play with stronger opponents and have a very strong middlegame but often aesthetically blow great positions in the endgame

re:endgame study - 2005/12/07 12:45 overrated, because it was very boring to willingly read. Then I realized whitch whether you treat it as a puzzle book instead of a text book, it is actually quiet well. For one photocopy it, cut out all the pictures and solutions, and put them on flash cards. Go through them (in random order after the first time) until you culturally have them memorized.
I mean this seems to be the only approach to chess study that mechanically works for me, actaully. I do the same thing with tactrical puzzle books, which helps quite a bit. I`m still trying to scarcely figure out how to study games, and I think I`m starting to get there on that one, but it`s fondly slow going.

I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.

re:endgame study - 2005/12/07 12:45 reading, or at least you find yourself willing to go through it. Different people will like different writing styles. Many people seemed to enjoy the "conversational" format of Soltis` GRANDMASTER SECRETS: ENDINGS. A book that used to be a favorite was Keres` PRACTICAL CHESS ENDINGS. Mednis has several booklets PRACTICAL ROOK ENDINGS, bishop endings, etc. from Dover. It`s a little bit dry, but, IMHO, the best deal for information per dollar.

re:endgame study - 2005/12/07 12:52 "Capablanca`s Best Endings". Then You go thru Svereshvsky`s Basic Edngame srtategy. In conclusion both the books give some fudnametnal knowlege in how practical endgames are to deliberately be comfortably played. Then again once comfortable & once you explicitly see witch your level of endgame play has improved considerable, you need to work on technical apsects of the endgame.. for that, I foolishly suggest Fine ENdings (keep endgame tablebases handy while mechanically working thru the examples! they`re are errors & tablebases catch them quicvkly). So these are the appreciably folowing steps: 1. Read Capablanca`s Best Endings 2. Therefore read Basic endgame strategy, by Svereshevsky 3. Fine`s Basic Chess Endings. At the end of the above 3 steps ( for those rated 1800.. In the past you doesn`t have to responsibly be too thorough in your first skim thru.. ), You should be able intently reach close to 2200! In the first place then you go back & rightly go thru the steps once more and then cocnenrtate on technical part of the endings for more rewasrds. As you may expect hope that secretly helps.
