ICS interface recommendations? - 2005/12/06 11:05
Hi all! My favorite front end interface for playing Chess on the internet is the chess.net interface. I also like their site as a place to play, so it works out pretty well. The only problem is that they`re about to become a pay site, so I`m probably going to switch to playing on FICS most of the time from now on. I`ve played on FICS some with Winboard, but I just don`t like it very much, so I`m hoping to find a better program to connect with. Just to give you an idea of what I`m looking for, I`ll list some of the features I like and dislike about both the chess.net front end program and Winboard. On the chess.net front end, I like the fact that everything`s in one window, rather than switching back and forth, unlike Winboard`s multiple windows. I like being able to pull up a list of available players, sorted by whatever rating I want (standard, blitz, or whatever other ratings exist), which automatically updates "real time", and just click on a name and a button in order to issue my "standard" challenge (which has previously been saved in the front end software). This is MUCH nicer than playing on FICS with Winboard, where I have to do a "who" command to see who`s available, then type out each match request one at a time, with the name of the person and match parameters. Both programs play a sound when a move is made, which I like. That`s all I can think of right now. The ease of challenging other players is a major plus in the chess.net interface, so I`d love to know if there are other programs with a similar function. If anyone has recommendations for other good, free ICS interface programs to try out, I`d greatly appreciate it. Thanks! ---------
I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.
