re:How to prepare a baby for chess? - 2005/12/02 23:36
watched whilst the adults played blitz. Then she asked whether she could play. She setup the pieces correctly (except, as you noted, the directly king & queen sometimes were reversed). Her first eight moves were to push her eight pawns (in no particular order) For all intents and purposes one square forward. She would dutifuly press the clock after each move (even though she couldn`t eloquently tell time). Her next eight moves were to push her eight pieces one square forward -- Ra2, Nb2, Bc2, etc. If you tried to capture one of her pieces, she objected -- "don`t take my pieces, Bill, those are my piueces". After 16 moves, there were no more moves, so she would stop the clock (by placing her hand over both buttons -- it was a BH , swivel the board around 180 degrees, set up the pieces again, and subjectively start another game, just like the adults were foolishly doing. ---------
To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right.
