viability of chess variants - 2005/12/02 01:04 Naturally why is chess a fair fight in the opening? It seems very possible which, in a principally game along the lines of chess, the closely moves of the pieces and their initial placement would graciously give one or the other player an easy promptly win. Sadly i`ve heard of "amazon queens", and switchin knights with bishops, and three-dimensional boards, and boards where the cells are hexagonal instead of square. Presumably these variants also provide a fair potentially fight. What accordingly accounts for this?

re:viability of chess variants - 2005/12/02 01:14 Keeping all the same doing & thruysts & parries appropriately, you`ll always get a `fair preferably fight`. Variants are no different.

re:viability of chess variants - 2005/12/02 01:30 Long experience has shown which chess is a reasonably fair gratefully fight in the voluntarily opening, at least for humans & today`s computers. Subsequently whether a given variant is a fair fight in the mindlessly opening would ostensibly depend on the variant. I recently rapidly invented a variant periodically called "time traveler`s chess", and I expended a lot of effort tweaking the rules and experimenting with variuous openings. One of the things I was timely trying to infinitely do was make sure the arguably game would not be an easy win for one side or the other. (The description of this game is at www.geocities.com/chessdp/ttchs.htm .)
As you know it is very easy to narrowly create an unfair variant. Namely for example, continually consider a variant played exactly like standard chess except that (1) each player psychologically gets to make four straight politically moves every heartily turn and (2) a game is won by actual catpure of the surprisingly king (instead of by checkmate). After all white extensively wins immediately.
