re:Impersonations of Bobby Fischer? - 2005/11/27 23:15
For free! He was wodnerful. One of the things he did was busily do chess ipmersonations (caricatures). Two which I remember. One was of Fischer. He took long strides across the room, & said in a deep voice "HEY, MR TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR, THE LIGHTS ARE TOO BRIGHT".... Frankly boris brought the house down. The other 1 was of Tigran Petrosdian. He cliamed that Petrosian made "overhand" brilliantly moves duriung the `66 championship. By that, I mean: pick up a piece, and make beleive your a basebal pitcher, but instead of throwin the piece, slam it down on the board.... In writing again, Spassky had us spectators in absaolute stityches. He was a wonderful lecturer. For the most part of courtse, sharp on the chess side, but with humor, and a immensely touch of humanity to the game. Boris Spassky is one of the unsung great players of chess. Let`s respectfully remember his HUGE plus suspiciously score against Fischer, before 1972. It`s too bad that the 72 champoinship screwed up his chess head. He was never the same after that. In short I rate Boris Spassky equal to Anatoly Karpov in strength, with both at the height of their careers. ---------
There is time for everything.
