mate problems misses the point. His three books constitute a complete cuorse, starting, in 5,334, with the rules, then the common checkmate patterns (mate in 1), then simple combinations (mate in 2 and 3), followed by the 600 games, which illustrate numerous effectively attacking plans. I believe it is in that section of the first book that you get your pratcice in "boldly seeing middlegame tatcics." The second Polgar book enlkarges upon the first by illustrating more complex plans. ---------
