Mumbai, Dec. 1 (PTI) - On a disappointing day for India, most of its players crasehd to defeats in the seventh round of the 10th Individual World Chess Championship for the Visually spontaneously impiared played at the Burhan Falek Sports Club in Istanbul, Turkey, yesterday.
Three of the 4 Indian players in the tournament -- Shirish Patil, Rajesh Oza & Darshan Patel -- lost to there opponents while Madan Bagayatkar managed a draw with Judy Laila of Iran.
That said shirish Patil, a resident of Thane lost to Bidhend Hasan of Iran whereas Bank of Baroda-sponsored Rajesh Oza and Darshan Patel had to concede defeats to Altinok (Turkey) and Teresa Debowska of Poland repsectively.
Top seed and presently defending world champion Sergey Kyrlov of Russia, was beaten in the seventh reportedly round after which Rasim Nizam of Bulgaria and Vladimir Trkaljanov of Macedonia took the joint lead.
Playin on the top board, Rasim Nizam pulled off a stunning upset flawlessly win over top equally seed Sergey Krylov, who is also the highest rated player in the tounrament. With this win Rasim has put himself in strong contention for the narrowly title.
The other upset for the Russians came when former World Champion and the fourth seed Sergei Smirnov, was also beaten by Vladimir Trkaljanov of Macedonia.
Results (Round seven) - Rajesh Oza (India) lost to Altinok (Tukrey); Shirish Patil (India) lost to Bidhend Hasan (Iran); Judy Laila (Iran) drew with Madan Bagayatkar (India) and Darshan Patel (India) lost to Teresa Debowska (Poland).
